The facts

What it is: A WooCommerce plugin that asks visitors a question before the store is shown, and keeps covered products out of the cart and checkout until they pass.
How they answer: Yes or no, a question you write, or a date of birth. You set the minimum age. The default is 21.
Before a pass: The page is replaced by the prompt. The shop's HTML is not in that response.
Remembered for: A pass is a signed cookie. They are not asked again until it expires. The default is 30 days.
A no answer: Shows only the failure message, with a way to try again. Nothing is stored about the person.
Search engines: Known crawlers can be let through, so your pages can still be indexed. On by default, and you can turn it off.
Price: $49 per year for one store. Renews yearly; cancel any time from your account. Updates and support included while active. The plugin keeps working if you stop renewing; it just stops getting updates. Made by MMJ eCommerce, a QWEBMASTER product.

How it works

Set it up, preview it, switch it on.

Write the question.Pick yes or no, your own question, or a date of birth, and set the minimum age.
Preview it.Open preview shows the prompt in your browser only. Visitors see nothing yet.
Switch it on.Turn on "Ask visitors before they view the store". The prompt ships switched off.
Visitors answer once.A pass is remembered for 30 days by default. Without one, covered products cannot be added to the cart or checked out.

The log stores the answer, the page path and a hash of the IP address. It does not store a name.

It does not check an ID. A pass records that this browser answered. Anyone can answer yes.
It does not decide what the law allows. You choose the question and the age. The plugin applies that choice.
It does not follow a visitor between browsers. A pass is a cookie in one browser. A new browser or cleared cookies means the question again.
It does nothing until you switch it on. Installing it changes nothing for visitors.
